This simple and elegant cremation urn is hand thrown in the Raku fire process. Raku is a traditionally an ancient Japanese ceramic firing process used in the production of stoneware, and with the New Black glaze and color scheme this ceramic urn is a beautiful memorial urn for your loved one.
With the Raku ceramic process, each handmade ceramic urn is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material immediately bursts into flame and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking, oxygen starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface creating the unique, seemingly ancient, colors and textures of raku. Thus, each of our one-of-a-kind Raku-fired funeral urns are unique in the particulars of the design and glaze finish.
As these cremation urns are generally made-to-order, please allow 3-6 weeks for your urn to be handcrafted and shipped. Often, we can finish and deliver sooner, but if you need the urn by a specific date please contact us and we will make the necessary arrangements.
